An simple, efficient and selective way for naked eye detection of Hg2+, Cu2+ and Fe3+
New compounds containing a donor 1,3-dithiole ring and an acceptor carbonyl group or thiocarbonyl group were synthesized, and their complexation towards metal ions was explored. The results showed that a combination of 3 and 4 could selectively detect Hg2+, Cu2+ and Fe3+ using both UV-vis spectra and the naked eye.
